EFFECTS is a dynamic, instrumental electric guitar album that blends elements of Rock, Post Rock, and Prog Rock to deliver memorable and well-constructed songs that have a cinematic edge. The strong, melodic themes and intricate compositions, combined with the impressive guitar work, make this an instant ‘must have’ for listeners who like rock-based electric guitar and heavy, melody-driven instrumentals.
Geoff started on electric guitar at age 12. He “practiced all day, every day” for about 10 years. Then he ‘discovered’ acoustic fingerstyle guitar and shifted largely to that for the following 10 years. Along the way, he realized a passion for film scoring and orchestral music, so he earned degrees in Film Scoring and Orchestration from the Berklee College of Music. He’s been “pulling it all together ever since.”
Geoff considers himself to be very fortunate to have studied guitar with Shawn Lane, Alex Degrassi, and Franco Morone. Some of his other main influences in addition to these world renowned guitarists include Alex Lifeson, Trevor Rabin, Eric Johnson, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson Williams, Hammock, and John Metcalfe.
Geoff has released 3 previous albums. Two of them, Understanding the Signs (film score/orchestral/hybrid) and While It Lasts (fingerstyle guitar) were nominated for a total of 8 “Of the Year” awards between ZMR and One World Music.
A Sonic Journey for Rock, Post Rock, and Prog Rock Guitar Fans
EFFECTS could legitimately be viewed as an instrumental concept album. It takes listeners on an immersive journey where each track represents an ‘effect’ or ‘impact’ resulting from an unspecified ‘cause’ which leaves space for personal interpretation. If these songs had lyrics, they would undoubtedly tell a story. The melodic, rhythmic, and technical guitar playing is front and center - and it’s going to grab your attention and keep it. Its atmospheric textures, heavy riffs, well-defined solos, and powerful rhythms are inspired by artists like Alex Lifeson, Trevor Rabin, and Eric Johnson. Overall, this album blends Rock, Melodic Metal, Prog Rock, Post-Rock, and modern guitar-driven soundscapes to create a unique sonic experience that will speak to fans of these genres.
The first three singles have recently launched across all major streaming platforms, and they are already generating international buzz and favorable reviews with curators, outlets, and journalists. With it's artful combination of strong melodies, driving rhythms, soaring solos, scorching lead lines, and cinematic elements, these songs will have guaranteed appeal for guitar and rock instrumental listeners. The full album features eight tracks and is scheduled for release in July.
“...the performance is both confident and nuanced. The guitar work carries the piece with clarity and purpose - never overly ornamental, but expressive and intentional. There's a lyrical quality to the soloing that feels almost vocal in its phrasing, adding emotional depth to the more driven, heavier choruses. These dynamic contrasts...reflect a mature compositional voice that knows when to hold back and when to let go. ”

“American instrumentalist Geoff Hall has sculpted and released another phenomenal guitar journey in the latest single, “The Promise.” (From) his upcoming album, EFFECTS, Geoff uses the guitar as the main focal point on this journey of cinematic quality. A smooth as silk, melodic effort, this is a patient, well written soundscape, rather than just an instrumental song...combining the heavy riffs with the melodic progressions, this to me is a perfect soundtrack to those moments in life when peace, joy, or relaxation is key.”
